Happy New Year!
Having spent a few weeks over Christmas digging a little deeper into our family history in the early days around Lockhart, in early January we went over to the Riverina Regional Archives at Charles Sturt University.
There's so much to discover here! - and so much more to learn about the best ways to work through records and research any family history mysteries here in the Riverina.
The team at CSU Archives are amazing. Last year they moved their collection north over the Murrumbidgee River to the campus in Wagga Wagga and they are ready to answer those niggling questions about who lived where - and when.
In our case, we're researching Drummonds, Stinsons and Meurants. After this first visit, we now know that property names won't be recorded in lands records, we need to find the official Lot Numbers so we can then go to old Conditional Purchase records and Rate Books too. If you're in NSW, working this out is as simple as going online to the Historical Records Viewer at the NSW Lands Registry Service.
When it comes to your family history, we're here to help you find out more in 2024. Follow @FamilyHistoryHolidays and tell us about the family history mystery you're hoping to solve on holidays this year!
